Hayward, Wisconsin
Dear Mr. Sharp:
Enclosed herewith find our check C-412 for $458.27. This is the balance due on the timber cut on tribal land as per statement received from Mr. Craig in March.
This, I believe, completes payment for all timber cut on tribal lands in accordance with terms of the Federal Power Permit. We are making this payment at this time because we have received a letter from the Department of Indian Affairs, signed by Mr. Burke, Commissioner, stating that they insist on our company making this payment.
We wish, however, to make a statement in connection to this payment, that we protest this payment, on account of the timber so classified being unmerchantable, and we still feel that the timber should be justly classified unmerchantable, and we also continue to feel that this requirement on the part of the Department is unjust to the Power Company.
Yours very truly,
V.S. Hillger
Chief Engineer
