LETTER ON CHURCH LAND 1913, November 19
Department of Interior
Office of Indian Affairs
Washington, DC
November 19, 1913
Mr. William A. Light
Superintendent Indian School
Hayward, Wisconsin
My Dear Mr. Light,
There are enclosed for use in connection with the report which you have been asked to make, covering lands occupied for missions purposes, in the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation, under your charge, copies of such letters on the subject as Indian Office records afford.
You will note that the authority was general. The churches for whom these privileges were intended and who established and maintained these missions on the lands under such general authorities should be able to submit data covering their arrangements with the local representatives of this Office, together with a rough sketch showing the lands occupied, situation of their mission plats, approximate date of beginning of work and character of work – either educational or religious only.
Yours very truly,
E.B. Meritt
Assistant Commissioner
